She began her career in 1990 in an off Broadway production called The Big Funk, by John Patrick Shanley. Then, in The Perfect Tribute, she made her TV debut the following year. In 1992, she earned her first big break by being a part of Basic Instinct as a secondary character. It was in The Firm however that she was cast as the female lead for the very first time, and this was also against famous actors such as Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman. Through the 1990s, Gwyneth was a co-star alongside Hugh Grant on Mickey Blue Eyes and Julie Andrews for Relative Values. Recenty, she played Dr Alex Blake (a police procedural-crime drama) in Criminal Minds.
